My new sofa arrived this morning!
I love it. It’s everything I didn’t want in a sofa. OK not exactly, but let me explain. Hubby and I went shopping for a sofa. Basically he went along to offer his opinion but he was clear that whatever I wanted was fine (unless he really hated it). See, we have this understanding. The family room aka “man cave” is his. He can do all the electronic, surround sound, big screen for watching football stuff, he wants down there and although I can make suggestions and offer advice, the final say is his. Thes rest of the house is mine. Hey, it was his idea and I am happy to oblige!
So the sofa. I said I wanted something floral, because for years we have had very basic, durable dark solid colors. We have seven boys after all so it made sense. But four of those boys are grown now and another is a teenager. The other two are flanked by sisters who mother them as much as I do and well the dynamic of my house is rather different these days –compared to say 10 years ago even. So I thought floral, like my sweet friend Alice’s sofa. But florals are not in vogue this season and none of the ones I did see were appealing.
I also told my hubby that I wanted a sofa with 3 cushions and not two big ones. Because when we have company it’s better for multiple seating. OK maybe that’s an odd requirement but I do want people to be comfortable.
Price was definitely a factor. I could have found plenty of sofas I liked but what I did not like was the price. My husband was amenable and ready to spend far more that I was. I am willing to pay for quality but some of those prices were exhorbatant. I just couldn’t do it.
So when we stopped at one last place (it’s always the last place right?) and I saw this sofa, well I am just a sucker for blue and that was it. Yes, yes it has two big cushions and it’s a solid but I love it. The best part was the price. As we were looking at it in the store a fellow shopper told us that she had seen the same sofa in another’s store outlet for $150 less. I called that store and sure enough they had it and for less. They put it on hold for me but when I called the next day to set up delivery the manager very kindly and apologetically told me that although it had shown up in his computer as being on the floor, when he went to look for it he found it was in fact gone.
BUT, he offered to get me a new one from the warehouse and still give me the outlet price. Now that’s service! The only catch was that I would have to wait a few weeks. “Not a problem” I said and we made a deal.
So there she is. A brand new, microsuede blue sofa, delivered and set up for under $500. Now that’s decorating on a budget!
