How’s the sewing coming along? I am still at it with fitting et. al., but taking a break to link up with Hallie at Moxie Wife and share some favorites today.
#1. The banana clip or “clincher combs” as they are now called. But I am child of the 80s so they are banana clips to me. Yes, I’m serious. They are the perfect ponytail holder for layered hair and they don’t give me a headache the way a regular ponytail does.
Check it out. That’s a respectable ponytail there gals. Retro is in and I am rocking the banana clip!
On a side note, do you know how tricky it is to take a back of your head selfie? Just sayin’ . . .
#2. My new iron. I think I mentioned a few weeks ago that my iron died in the middle of a sewing project. Frankly I am just so tired of spending $50+ on irons that break and/or leak within a year or two. My mom’s iron lasted for YEARS so when I saw Black and Decker was offering a “Classic Iron” that looked just like my mom’s old iron I had to try it. Especially since it was only $23.99 and had quite a few good reviews.
I love it! For one thing it’s heavy. I like an iron with some weight. It also gets VERY hot. I learned the hard way after scorching a few things that unlike my last several irons the highest setting on this thing is one I will not be using often.
This is a remake of the old classic iron that so many of us grew up with. The added benefit of a bit of nostalgia is kind of fun.
#3. My new vacuum. Yeah I’m pushing the products today but only because I truly want to share my good fortunate in finding them with you all! I was this close to buying one of those super expensive Dyson’s that everyone raves about. But again I am sick of paying so much money for these things. Still I was considering it, that is until someone somewhere (online and I’m sorry but I cannot remember where –I might have seen it on Pinterest) mentioned the Shark Navigator Lift-Away . I saw that it had a lot of really good reviews and was only $159.00 (which is not a pittance I know but have you seen what those Dyson’s cost??). So I figured I’d try it and yep, it’s a keeper.
I am AMAZED at the suction on this thing and the amount of dirt it got out of what I would have sworn was a clean rug. It also does hard wood floors really well (good thing because I have a lot of those). I am sufficiently impressed and so was my husband. So much so that he suggested I buy another one and stick it in the closet until we need it years from now (hopefully years). Well I just might!
#4. OK enough product reviews. A huge favorite of mine right now is every. blessed. blooming. thing! The long cold winter is gone and it’s warm (hot!) and bright and everything is in bloom. I love it!
#5. The elderly. I spent the morning at a retirement village watching a swim show that the “mermaids” put on. It was so inspiring! I just love talking to elderly people. There is a sweetness and an innocence that so many of them have. I love hearing their stories and knowing about their lives. I always leave with a new perspective and an appreciation for living in the now. I mentioned last week on FB that I had met a lovely woman, by the name of Annamarie, who was 101 years old. I met her at this same pool and she told me she is starting to have to slow down. Wow. I will never complain again about getting old! Well, maybe not for a few months at least. Truly, I am humbled.
